Charging 2S LiPo Batteries with the Turnigy Accucell-8510

The Turnigy Accucell-8150 battery charger allows one to balance charge packs from three to eight cells per pack with the JST-XH balance plug. The charger has six balance ports on its right side. One port for 3S, 4S, 5S, 6S, 7S and 8S packs, but nothing for a 2S pack. Because of the design for the JST-XH balance plug it cannot be inserted into any of the available ports unless it is modified. The modification I show here will allow one to balance a 2S pack without having to build or buy a 2S-3S adapter.

On each of my 2S Flightmax packs I have taken a razor blade and shaved off part of the alignment tab on the balance plug. This modification takes less than a minute. After making the change I plug my 2S packs into the 3S port on the charger. It is important to remove the correct tab from the plug. While facing the end of the plug, it is the alignment tab on right-hand side that needs to be removed. The alignment tab on the ground side must remain in place.

After the connector is modified it can still only go into the charge port one way, so you don't need to worry about plugging it in incorrectly. See the photos below, they are probably worth more than the text I have written here! Click photo to enlarge.
